We thought it would be really great if we start this section by posting a check-list for bloggers. The points listed below highlights the issues for bloggers in a nutshell and what exactly the handler of a blog should be concerned about before hitting the “post” button:

  • Concerns:
    • Do You Have Liability Concerns?
    • Is deep linking legal?
    • Who owns user-developed content?
    • Do you have to disclose paid endorsements?
    • What should I do when someone steals my content?
    • Can I use any image on my blog?
    • How do I have to protect people’s private information?
  • Copyright Tips:
    • Do use material under public domain
    • Do quote something you find interesting
    • Do use facts and ideas
    • Do use other materials that are not subject to copyright
    • Do use a company name or logo if you are talking about it
    • Do use a company name on your domain
    • Don’t assume that if you credit the author there is no copyright infringement
    • Don’t copy material just because it does not show a copyright message
    • Don’t equate Creative Commons with “free for grab”
    • Don’t copy material just because you are not making a commercial use
    • Don’t assume that if you remove the copyrighted material you will be out of trouble
    • Don’t copy material just because you can’t find a copyright holder
